Schoolwork accomplished today:

*Leanna worked on some ocean oil spill pictures and she helped me take notes on the Oil spill.  Then she composed a letter to our senator, Jennifer Mann, which we will hopefully mail tomorrow, asking her to make laws to help with oil spills.  It had a lot of spelling and punctuation errors so later on I had her re-write it.  This doesn't sound like a lot but it was quite time-consuming.  I showed her how to address a letter.
*I tested her on spelling lists 11 and 12.
*She colored a picture of Mark Twain (I'm thinking we'll start doing Tom Sawyer soon, maybe with all the kids).
*She drew a stack more fish/ocean pictures.
*She read some of Bunnicula outloud.
*She was reading stories to Timothy as well.
*We finished James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.
*We discussed earthquake safety, thanks to an email that was sent to me.

I took time to organize and put away a bunch of our school papers that had been sitting on the kitchen table getting wrinkled and having water spillled on them.  I feel so much better now, I have a better idea of what we've accomplished and I found a few papers I need to go over with her again.  It feels good to be a little more organized.

Today was president's day.

Schoolwork accomplished:

*Leanna finished the Bobbsey Twins at Rainbow Valley by Laura Lee Hope
*walked to and from Pinebrook
*played Operation with Deb
*Finished Muliplication workbook and corrected wrong answers
*Read Oil Spill!  and we discussed it and Leanna drew a picture of an oil spill.  We're thinking of doing a lapbook on oil spills.
*I read her 4 chapters in James and the Giant Peach tonight.
Again, not a whole lot, but since it was a school holiday, that doesn't worry me too much.

Not an official schoolday, but she did do some reading today and more work in that multiplication workbook.  And completely on her own, I might add.
Tom stayed home today, but he spent most of the day outside in his van.  He did take Justin out with him when Justin came out to ask if he could help.  Leanna went out front to play (since Daddy was outside) and ended up in the van.  And later Timothy wanted to help too. So for a few hours I had only Jacob in with me and I straightned up the living room.  I couldn't find the valentine's day craft I'd bought ($1.00) to do with them, I was very dissapointed. They were all dressed in at least some red for Valentine's Day.  I made some special cupcakes from a tiny mix-it made 8-that I bought on sale a month ago.  It came with a frosting mix and blue sprinkles.  I wanted to take a picture but didn't get a chance.  They were gone within minutes of coming out of the oven.  Everyone's getting hungry, there's just not a lot of food around here.  I really wanted to do more fun stuff, but my mood was just shot.....too much depressing stuff going on now.  I had the kids clear pathways in their rooms later and Leanna and Jacob had a loooong bath.  I did several loads of laundry and dishes.  I folded and put away laundry.  I cleaned out the fridge.  I read to the boys.  And I read a couple more chapters in James and the Giant Peach.   I think we have nine more chapters to go!!

Not an official schoolday, but we accomplished a bit.  I figure it makes up for our lackluster week.

*We read  6 chapters of James and the Giant Peach.
*Leanna began The Bobbsey Twins: Rainbow Valley
*Leanna did 14 pages in a new multiplication workbook I got for $1.00 at Target.
We got internet back tonight.    :  )    I'm very happy!

Schoolwork accomplished:

*Leanna did another puzzle page in the dinosaur book.
*outdoor snow play (good excersize)
*Read Under the Sea and looked for interesting facts for a lapbook on it.
*Leanna made her own ocean "lapbook" while I was out.  She went beyond my expectations.  I'd left her with instructions for taking notes, but she drew pictures and cut them out and glued them.  She wrote one minibook with illustrations.  She wrote down some facts and put them on little paper books.
A lot of it was repetetive and the words misspelled, but she was passionate about her subject and she did this on her own.  I'm proud of her for that and I love to see her excited about learning.  This is why we homeschool!

Art class was cancelled today and so was Brownies.
If she was in school it would have been another snowday.

*Leanna read Unit 2 of the free science book.  Actually she read the first chapter to herself then I read the next three to her outloud and we talked about some of the concepts.
*She answered the questions for this unit and we reviewed her answers and looked for the ones she left blank or got wrong.  She did skip the crossword puzzle though.
*3 worksheets on pronouns
*one page of writing the alphabet in cursive.
*some reading on her own (Chrissa)
*2 chapters of James and the Giant Peach
*We reviewed multiplication tables
*Put together a dinosaur puzzle book page.
