*We read The Frog Scientist by Pamela S. Turner  (this sounds so simple but took forever.  I paraphrased as we read each page, again at the end, and  asked them each to explain to me the main points of the book and to define important concepts.  We also had multiple stops to check comprehension and to ensure they were listening.)   They were particularly fascinated by the pictures of frogs being dissected and the poisonous frogs.
