Schoolwork Accomplished:

*Art class at the Baum-one of her free time drawings caught the teacher's fancy.  She said it was just cute and asked if she could keep it but Leanna wouldn't let her.
*Walking to and from the Baum (and for me & the boys, inbetween too)
*Answered questions for both sections from the free science book (plant stuff)
*Some journaling in her personal journal
*a worksheet on correcting sentences
*started an online comma practice game, until the computer stop went offline (again!!  As usual!!)
*silent reading on her own, Ramona books
*Brownie Girl Scouts, fundfest-so there was some math and game-playing and lots of socializing

I didn't really work with her today, I was so tired and physically exhausted that I could barely function.

Schoolwork Accomplished today:

*Explored a plant website made by a 2nd grade class-how to plant a tree, plant lifecycle, photosynthesis
*One comma worksheet
*a three page quotation mark worksheet
*Math website with multiplication drills-she completed the 1's, 2's, 3's, and 4 times table quizzes.  The website automatically grades the quiz for you and times how long it took you to complete it.
*She wrote a paragraph of her Angela story.  With an illustration.
*Lots of excersize playing outside with Amira and a friend in the late afternoon into the evening.
*Alice: Through the Looking Glass finished

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

Leanna came down on her own today, dressed already and sat down at the kitchen table and began answering her three sheets of questions about the second chapter of the free science book.  (I was quite impressed. She's trying to finish in time to go out and play with Amira today)
After that she added a chapter to her Angela story.  She started some multiplication, but didn't get very far on that, as I started printing out some punctuation and comma worksheets (Leanna needs a lot of practice in that area!)  and so Leanna did one on her own, which I corrected and explained to her.  Then I worked with her on another excellent one from http://www.englishforeveryone.org/  It was three pages but there was an example for each section.  She needs more practice, but she was starting to get it!  Which is encouraging.   Then she was asking to go outside with her brothers.  Since it's supposed to be the last nice day outside, I let her take a break and go get some sunshine, fresh air, and excersize.  She cleared out a space in the middle of the backyard and swept.  Then she had me come out and watch a show she put on where she balanced a handle on various parts of her body.
She did one more sheet on paragraph correction.  And an entry in her regular journal, which is really just another story.  I gave her a spelling test on list 13 (two wrong out of 20, she didn't get the bonus word)
Later at night she sat down and started working on a comma worksheet I had printed for the next day's work.
And we really need to work more on drilling those multiplication facts, and finish that double digit X double digit worksheet today!
We read more Alice: Through the Looking Glass at night.

While I'm thinking of it......

Leanna likes the free science book because it's humorous.  Corny jokes, but it works for her. I need to keep that in mind when chosing materials for her.
Also, she likes the math workbook because it has gold stars that you put on the page when you complete it and also in the table of contents.  She likes having that star to note the work being done, it seems to give her something to work for.

Monday, March 8, 2010 & catch up

I haven't been posting much because of the court case and all the anxiety.  We didn't do any "school" on Thursday or Friday, although she did have art class and Brownies on Thursday and on Friday she was able to observe a real live court in action.  Not as dramatic as on tv, this court had only the two parties and the judge.   But certainly it was an educational experience.  I think it was either Thursday or Friday afternoon that she did a science kit that she got for Christmas, Ultimate Illusions: Adventure Science Series.   She did experiments with mirrors and water, made a rainbow and a periscope (her favorite).  She practiced counting out money over the weekend when we walked to the store.  And we did read some Alice: Through the looking glass over the weekend, and Leanna always does reading on her own.

Schoolwork accomplished today:
*Some double digit X double digit math problems (about 8, it's pretty slow-going)
*3 math workbook pages (done entirely on her own)
*walked to and from Pinebrook
*practiced counting out money at Wawas to pay for a dougnut
*played games with Deb
*Read free Science book Unit 3 and answered questions from the first chapter in it-about inherrited traits and species.
*Hours later we went over the science section that she answered questions for and talked about it.  She clearly understood and remembered it.
*Wrote a paragraph of the Angela story

Not a lot, but we also did packing and all four kids got a bath tonight, plus I went to Staples with Laura to get more black printer ink, and I did two loads of dishes and two loads of laundry, and cleaned in the boys' room, and straightened in the kitchen.  It doesn't at all look like I did much here, but I really did.
*We read a chapter in Alice: Through the Looking Glass
