Catch Up

This week we've been back to school, (after our move and all the stuff) but it's still very different.
I read the section on Vikings to Leanna, after she got 2 Viking playmobil men for Easter.    She started making a picture of the Vikings and their houses and ships as I read to her, on some of our butcher paper.  Afterwards I looked up more info online and we read and talked about it, and I had her explore some of it and read some of it outloud to me.   She wrote down some notes on the Viking info and wrote a journal entry explaining what they were like.  She's played some new multiplication games online in addition to the regular multiplication quizzes at multiplication.com.  (not willingly, but she has).  We also read some stuff about the Romans, and talked about AD and BC and where those terms come from.   Although the book is older, I believe most books now say BCE not BC.  She reads pretty much everyday and she's been doing some journaling too.  Tuesday we went on a bus to Justin's doctor appt.  We left at 11:45 and returned at 7:00 at night.  Bus trips are always interesting.   The other kids stayed at Grammy's while I took Justin to his appt.  After art class on Thursday she lead an art session with her brothers and Noah in the backyard, and put on an art show for a neighbor (Jennifer) and her son.  Leanna really liked Jennifer (she's about my age).  She had a pool party and tour of McDonalds last night with Girl Scouts.  She's outside everyday in the backyard, even played with a couple neighborhood girls, and she's been to the park four times since we've been here.  Thursday afternoon we walked to the Postal store and then out to Giant, with a stop at Home Depot and got back just in time for Girl Scouts.  Leanna's also worked some more on her sewing project.

I contacted someone about her third grade testing and found out it's ok to wait until next month (which gives me more time to come up with the $40.00! and to get multiplication firmer in her mind).  That lady said as long as we're doing math and reading something, plus maybe journaling or some type of writing, that we're fine.  I know that, but I worry that the district won't approve.  I'm worried about how strict they may be, especially since we don't have formal curriculum.
