Field Trip Day!
We went to Skippack's Revolutionary War Event!
This was an hour and a half away-our first family road trip since we finally(after two years!) have a vehicle again! I baked chocolate chip cookies and apple bars the night before and we packed peanut butter-Sunbutter for Jacob-and jelly for the kids and lunchmeat for Tom. At first they weren't impressed, Leanna and Timothy were a little carsick from the heat in the van and it was pretty hot outside too. But I let Leanna take pictures and that cheered her up and when the boys started seeing guns that really helped. We wandered for a bit then listened to an author's talk about his book on Skippack's involvement. Then we went back to the van to eat and feed the baby who was getting very fussy. Then it was much better. We talked to several "soldiers" looked at the displays and bought the kids musket balls. We walked around the farm, saw an open hearth, the tents, real buttons and uniform pins, apple butter being made, food preparation equipment, weapons, toys, games, etc. The older three kids marched in a soldier's drill (the highlight for Justin and Timothy!)
Then we drove to Jerry's house for what was at first a gym session (outdoor play-running around, using the swingsets, playing ball, etc.) then it was just socialization with Leanna and Mia and Lexy with the boys. A fun family day.
