I still do not have the “Official” ok to start school yet. But I
don’t feel I should wait any longer and the kids are all asking to do
school. To be fair though, we did do some school the past week or two
(really all summer, school is not entirely separate from life for us).
But we did more brick and mortar school type stuff in recent weeks.
So Justin and Timothy started their Diego math books (! They’ve been
excited since I first bought them). Justin began blowing through his,
while Timothy got caught up on the first page-those darn 4s!-and got
very frustrated & took a while to finish the first page. He caught
up fairly quickly though. I was impressed with how quickly Justin was
getting the concepts though.
Timothy and Jacob explored an anthill. Justin ran around cleaning
the yard. Then he came in and wanted to continue his math but it really
wasn’t working out as it was a more difficult part and Leanna wanted
help with her math and to start her geography. She ended up drawing the
Mona Lisa (no, really) while I finished just a section of the difficult
page with Justin. Then I stopped him and read some of the geography
info to Leanna while she finished her drawing. She did a journal entry
on how to garden and took some notes on nature outside. Leanna read
some Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes (silent reading).
We listened to some They Might Be Giants (covering history, science,
and the alphabet with Istanbul, Roy G. Biv, and various alphabet songs)
so we had music class too! Lorelei really enjoyed their videos too!
*Sidenote: Elemeno Pecuares will be my new pseudo-name. Bonus points if you get that!
The boys did a worksheet with capital and lower case M’s and traced
the word “Mouse” then colored a mouse picture. (The Mouse and the
Motorcycle theme) Justin colored his mouse as Ralph’s mother(modeled
after me, naturally), Timothy made fun of him because it wasn’t the
right colors for a mouse since Justin used pink, green, orange, blue,
and brown. Timothy was very proud that he copied the book cover to make
his mouse brown only. Their yelling over it woke the baby. Again.
Lorelei grabbed at the math books, and cried when I set her down.
She wanted to eat at inconvenient times. She was really fussy all day
& night. I frequently had two or three kids asking for help or for
me to correct their work all at once! It’s going to take work to find a
balance. Leanna broke my coffee pot while trying to make herself some
soup. She started to cry and I had to stop and go hug her to let her
know it was ok. The dishes are still piled high. Tom didn’t come home
until after 9 at night. And I had to make his dinner then. (he was
starved and had a headache). I never got to put away my supplies.
Justin kept wanting to do more math throughout the night, but I just
could not get to it. The baby wouldn’t stay sleeping for more than 20
minute stretches. I’d switch laundry to the dryer, put on a new load,
start folding and she’d be up again before I’d finished folding.
Timothy wanted to do more math then just to compete with Justin-Justin
was ahead of him! Leanna did more drawing. She also did some hitting
today. An exhausting day.
